I am planning to go on trip to Lviv in August (supposed to be going with my sister, but she can't go, unfortunately, so am left on my own). The thing is that my lovely grandad is from Lviv, so I thought, why not to find out a bit more about him and his home town e.t.c. Any nice people who live in Lviv and have some time in August...?

Thanks.

Best Wishes,

Anechka :)

On December 12 Lviv’s Bandinelli Palace (Rynok Sqr. 2) a new museum dedicated to the history of the city’s postal services was opened. The event was held as part of celebrations to mark the tenth anniversary of Lviv’s inclusion into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is part of efforts to highlight the achievements of what was one of Eastern Europe’s first postal services. The festive opening were attended by the governors of Lviv city council. This event highlighted the rich contribution of Lviv heritage to European history. This building has been chosen because of the fact that the original owner of the Bandinelli Palace, Mr. Bandinelli, was the man who first began a mail service from Lviv to other major trading cities in 1629.

If you are planning not to waste your time while going to Lviv, the most easiest and convenient way is to take a plane from your native town and flew to Poland. If your airplane is landing at Rzeszow, you can take a bus to Perzemysl and from here to use the services of express buses going to Lviv. It takes only 4 hours to get to Lviv by them and the detailed timetable of such buses you can find here:

You get a bus from the airport to the train station. There is a shuttle bus waiting after the flight arrives. And it departs about 11.50. The ticket price is 6 PLN.

Then you get a fast ("pospesny") train to Premysl. Make sure you buy a full "pospesny" ticket type otherwise you may have trouble with conductors on the train. If they are nasty they can try to charge you with a 80PLN fine. The fast ("pospesny") train starts about 12.43 or something like this. The full ticket costs 20+PLN.

Then a minibus to Medyka. There are always minibuses waiting when you come out of the underground passage from the train station - on the side where the bus station is. The minibus costs 2 PLN.

Then a short drive to the border, then on foot across the border. After the minibus stops you can just follow the people - the foot crossing is on the left of the main crossing gateway fro cars and buses.

Actually it's quite a gloomy entrance to Ukraine. It was really dirty and full of Ukrainian and Polish dodgy people smuggling cigarettes and alcohol across the border. Though it's usually a fast way through.

Then - about 100 meters along a road from the border towards Lviv there is a bus station where you can take a minibus to Lviv. It was also quite dodgy - first the minibus was really packed, but then some people get off on the first stop in the next village and it was ok. It's about 1.5 hour drive to Lviv. The price was 8.5 hryvnias.

Have a nice time in Lviv

This is just one of the cheapest options how to get from Lviv to the UK.

Bus Lviv-Krakow, departing from the bus station at Stryiska str at 10pm (Ukrainian time)

Bus arrives to Rzeszow bus/train station at about 2am (Polish time). It could be late in case of delays on the border.

Hotel Polonia just on the square opposit to the train station. If you ask for the cheapest room - they will say 98 polish zloty. Well I didn't want to spend too much money, so I asked if they had anything even cheaper. The answer was - yes - and I got a room for 60 zloty. I quess it would work for everyone, you just have to ask twice.

Breakfast for 9 zloty. Then bus (number 250 if I'm not mistaken) to the airport (6 zloty), and it arrives just when the Ryanair check-in starts.

Have a nice flight Smile

Thanks - it is really helpful for me (so maybe I'll give You some books to read:)).
So is it long way from B/T station to the Rz/airport?
Are there trains/tube from L/Stansted?(I was only at Heathrow)
What about way back? - I mean transport from Rzeszow to Lviv? (plane arrives to Rzeszow at 11:10)
Did You buy tickets yourself via Net?(I never did it before!)
Or via tourist agency?(if yes - how much they charge for service?)

about half an hour (or even a bit less) from the station to the airport.
Of course there are trains to London.
Way back is via Przemysl - then over the border in Medyka and a minibus to Lviv.
One can book tickets directly at Ryanair web site.

Hi
Is this still the easiest and cheapest way to get to Rzeszow from Liviv?
Is Stryiska in Lviv?
Does this bus go every night?
Also is it possible to get a taxi from Lviv to Rzeszow and if so how much would this cost?
Is it safe for a female travelling alone?
Thanks for any reply

The easiest way would be to take a train. There is a change in Przemysl - make sure you go to the platform in advance - to go through the Polish customs. It's definitely the simplest way, though it's longer than by bus. The arrival time to Lviv is 22.25
I guess it's reasonably safe.

Taxi to Rzeszow would be expensive and not too reliable - there may be delays on the border - it's better to go by bus.

Hi
I intend to travel from Lviv to Rzeszow on the 20th September.
I would like to use the bus service as described, but last some time ago my boyfriend used this route and he says the bus was full so he had to use mini buses and found the experience very difficult. Rolling Eyes

Is it possible to book this bus from Lviv to Rzeszow in advance?
Also does this bus go every night?

Or at different times of the day? I would probably prefer to get in to the hotel Polena earlier than 2am as I like my sleep.

Any ideas really apreciated.

All thanks to the author of this website. I think its great and helpful.

I am planning to travel from UK to Kiev, but looks like the cheapest way is to go through Lviv.
I should arrive to Rzeszow at about 21:30 by Ryanair, there's direct train to Kiyv at 23:50, but I'm hesitating to book it as I'm affraid I may not have enough time if the flight is a bit late (and I need to wait for luggage and go through customs). Anyone who travels with Ryanair how often is it in time? Laughing

Also if I arrive this late, how many busses are there at night and are buss and train stations open 24h?

Is it too risky to travel without prebooked tickets or there is no problem with transportation to Lviv?

And last question, for ukrainians holding UK visa, do we need to get transit visa to travel through Poland or Uk visa automatically allows transit?

Thanks a lot to everyone who can help me.

Hi,

Myself and a group of friends are hoping to come to Lviv from London for a long weekend in March or April 2008.
I last travelled this route in 2004 and we flew with Ryanair to Rzeszow, caught the train to Premsyl, then changed onto the Ukrainian train to Lviv.
I was hoping to do the same this time, but the train website (www.db.de) only shows one train a day across the border, leaving at 19.25, arriving at 23.46. I am sure there used to be three trains?
Is the train service still disrupted by the accident from the summer?
As there will be a group of us I thought the train will be easier than trying to catch the bus across the border. Is this the most straightforward way?
Also, does anyone have any up to date prices for the train journey?

Many thanks

Andy

.........................................

Dear Andy,
Yes, this is true that there is only one train going from Premsyl to Lviv, its number is — 809 and it departures at 18:15 and arrives at 22:24 in Lviv. Also if you have some problems with this train you can try to buy the tickets
to the direct train #52K Kiev - Wraclaw, departing at 15:48 from Rzeszow and arriving at 23:46 at Lviv in case it is an option for you.
I will not recommend you to go by bus as it is always delaied at the border for many hours and it is not a good idea trying to catch it.
The ticket for the #809 train Premsyl-Lviv costs around 24$ and for the #52K train Kiev-Wraclaw — 43$.
I think you should recheck this information close to your arrival in case price policy of the train service may change.
Oksana
